» The Company
The Mission: Thera-Sonics is a medical company which has developed a novel system called the BubbleBusterTM that effectively removes air bubbles from blood or fluids infusion lines before entering the patient blood vessels. The Company holds unique ultrasound technologies and expertise to further develop the system into many other fields.
Thera-Sonics was founded in December 2002 and received a mutual funding from the Israeli Chief Scientist Office and private investors. The Company Office is based at the Zemach in the Jordan Valley and has technological laboratory at the Center for Industrial Research at the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa.
The Need: Air bubbles injected into human body during medical treatments where blood or fluids are rapidly or continually infused to the patient body, such as hemodialysis and open-heart surgeries, cause damage to essential organs such as the lung and brain. More than 30% of hemodialysis patients suffer from the fatal condition of pulmonary hypertension. Approximately 35% of open-heart surgery patients suffer from long term brain damage. These problems are associated with the injection of air bubbles during the procedures. The Product (the “BubbleBusterTM”): Utilizing the Company’s core proprietary ultrasound technology, The BubbleBusterTM is a non-invasive, automatic and simple-to-use, system composed of an electronic unit and a disposable module.
